What’s the point of hiring a traffic attorney?
I was charged with speeding this morning, and am interested in getting the # of points reduced. Because of how fast I was allegedly Buy Drugs going, I am required to attend a hearing.
My usual attorney is overkill for this type of thing (and I don’t think he has much traffic law experience), so I just called one from the yellow pages. He says the plan is to apologize and make a deal with the officer outside the hearing, and if he refuses, then try to establish that his reaction time with his VASCAR-plus system (stopwatch coupled with a calculator) was large enough that my ticket should be bumped down by 4mph (making it far less serious).
My driving record is spotless.
My question is, what am I paying the attorney for? If it’s all about groveling, then can’t I do that myself?
I have a good explanation (not excuse). I was distracted because I had just received some bad news about my little brother (Big Brothers Big Sisters, not biological). Apparently he’s going to a foster home because his mom is abusive. Do you think I’ll get any sympathy/mercy for this?
